Western Isles Wildflowers
Western Isles wildflowers is a collection of information about our Hebridean wildflowers including identification hints, traditional herbal uses and general plant lore.
Colt's foot
Tussilago farara
Gaelic name: Cluas liath

Colt's foot looks a bit like a leafless dandelion with thick furry stalks when it first flowers.
Frank and Ceri reported Colt's foot flowering at the roadside in Leurbost and Great Bernera at the beginning of April. The flowers come out before the leaves.
A large patch of colt's foot in Rodel (in Harris opposite Rodel church) showed thumbnail sized leaves on the 15th April.
Colt's foot is a native plant of the Western Isles.
