Shiant Islands - Outer Hebrides (Western Isles)
19th July, 2008
"We stayed on the Shiants for a week, ringing Puffins and others. Most of the time the weather was a little, shall we say Hebridean?! It was interesting camping in Force 8 winds. Photos were taken mainly during breaks in the clouds of course. But the islands are a fantastic place and I hope to return soon.
Next, here's one that's a little different, Puffins flying over their main breeding site on Garbh Eilean. The birds were not necessarily disturbed as a result of our presence - it was all part of the general coming and going during the breeding season... The scene of constant movement of tens of thousands of birds was truly mesmerising.
It was an incredible experience and privilege to be there at the time. I may have been part of a scientific expedition but I have to admit that Puffins are simply wonderful creatures."
