The Arch Project Location

Stornoway Arch Project has four large polytunnels

The Arch Project is based in the grounds of the Lews Castle in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Western Isles of Scotland.

The project site is relatively well protected from the prevailing winds, with good use made of webbing material to give extra protection for the four large polytunnels in which the majority of the crops are grown.

There is a large outside growing area which is being prepared, the aim for this area is to culitvate it using the "lazy-bed" method, a technique traditional in the Islands, allowing maximum production from wet land.

The Project has a new teaching room in the final stage of being erected on the site, to allow the project to provide accredited horticultural training courses for the community.

The Arch Project does not at present have disabled access as the path is much too steep for a wheelchair user, or anyone having problems walking. This issue of accessibility is in the process of to be remedied.

Arch Project Outlets

The project aims to sell produce at the gate in the future, at the moment the produce is sold on the Lewis and Harris Horticultural Producers stall which is held on Saturday Mornings in Point Street in Stornoway. The produce grown by the Arch project has also been sold to the local hotels and other food outlets, local fresh produce is in demand!

There are plans to set up an Organic Box scheme as the project matures.
