- UK: Resident Breeder, Passage/Winter Visitor . Mostly absent in Scottish Highlands & Islands
- WI: Rare passage visitor (less than 30 records)
- Breeds: Europe, Asia
- Winters: South of breeding range to Africa, Asia
- Habitat: Open countryside preferably with tall cover - bushes or hedgerows. Grassland.
- Bunting - Male bright yellow head & below. Brown back (streaked black). Rump chestnut. Flight: shows white outer tail feathers. Perches singing in tops of tall bushes.
- Diet: Seeds (summer, insects)
- Listen to a Yellowhammer (RSPB site) "little bit of bread and no cheese!"
- Similar birds: Yellow Wagtail
