Northern Fulmar records in the Western Isles

Abundant breeder.
The St Kilda colony is the largest Northern Fulmar colony in Britain (or Ireland).
There are over 5000 pairs on both Sula Sgeir and Mingulay.
The breeding population in the western Isles is of international importance

On the chart below the darker the shade of blue the more Northern Fulmar the bird is during a month or the more likely you are to see it.

Occasionally we get the Blue Fulmar:

• A colour phase of the Fulmar - Fulmarus glacialis
• The usual white plumage is replaced by grey.
• Not regarded as a subspecies
• This phase can be predominant in an Arctic population
