Barred markings in belly area and orange bill at the base are some of the distinguishing features from the summer adult Bar-tailed Godwit.

Summer adult females have a paler rufous-orange breast than the males.

 

Black-tailed Godwit records in the Western Isles

Limosa limosa islandica is an uncommon passage visitor (low numbers), and very rare winter visitor (five or less records)
