Black Redstart

- UK: Migrant / UK Resident Breeder, Passage / Winter Visitor
- UK: AMBER LIST. 26 - 74 pairs. (summer) BTO
- WI: Scarce passage visitor (very small numbers each year)
- Breeds: South & Central Europe - UK (not WI), Central Asia, North-West Africa, (nests in crevices & holes in buildings)
- Winters: (birds in warmer areas are resident) Northern birds go South to North Africa & South Asia
- Habitat: Cliffs, (Has adapted to urban areas) buildings, derelict areas, stony ground (migration - coast)
- Diet: Insects, spiders, worms, fruit, berries & seeds
- Flycatcher. Like greyish or black robin with orange-red tail (adult male vibrates it). Adult male grey-black. White wing patch. Female or 1st summer males mousey grey-brown
- Listen to a Black Redstart (RSPB site)
- Similar birds: Common Redstart (which has buff -orange breast)
