Puffins
|
Shiant Islands - Outer Hebrides |
Thousands of puffins, but sadly a lot less than 3 years ago, and hardly any with beaks full of sand eels where previously there had been many. Vast amounts of razorbills and guillemots
Thanks to the Islands Book Trust for a great boat trip |

"My name is Bob Swann and I have recently been appointed as Scottish Organiser for the 2007-2011 Bird atlas project.
This project aims to map the distribution and relative abundance of all Britain and Ireland's birds during both the winter (November-February) and summer (April-July) seasons. This is going to a tough, but rewarding job, to ensure complete coverage of Scotland. We hope that all Scottish birders will help out. Recording is relatively straightforward with both paper and online recording forms. Full details can be found at www.birdatlas.net or by contacting the Scottish organiser at bob.swann@bto.org."

Sorry folks - serious hardware problems - so there were no updates for a few days.
All in order from here on!
It has mostly been news of Iceland & Glaucous Gulls in scattered places,
a Harlequin Duck off St Kilda (Snowy Owl still there), a Bonaparte's Gull off Ardivarchar Point, South Uist, and an American Herring Gull which turned up in Stinky Bay, Benbecula.
Generally a quieter time after the April - May flurry...

Buzzard |
Stornoway - Isle of Lewis - Outer Hebrides |
On the Pentland road, what was unusual was that the pipit was in hot pursuit of the buzzard for some distance, cussing loudly at it for all the way - it was so very tiny by comparison...a brave little bird |
